Half Day Private Boat Tour of the Gulf of Poets on the Nimbus W9

Departure ports: La Spezia, Lerici or Portovenere.
Time slots: morning 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. or afternoon 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
Max capacity: 6 guests — fully private charter.

A 4-hour private boat tour of the Gulf of Poets aboard the Nimbus Weekender W9, available in two slots: morning (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) or afternoon (2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.). Maximum 6 guests on an exclusive private charter, departing from La Spezia, Lerici or Portovenere. For travellers with half a day free, or those who prefer a focused, unhurried experience over a full-day itinerary, the Nimbus W9 half day is the most flexible option on the gulf.

The route covers the full eastern arc of the Gulf of Poets, beginning with Lerici — the medieval village watched over by the Castle of San Giorgio — and continuing south along the coast to the small hidden villages of Fiascherino and Tellaro, two of the most quietly beautiful communities in Liguria and best appreciated from the sea. The tour then heads towards the UNESCO-listed archipelago of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, three spectacular islands of different sizes and entirely unspoiled by development.

Portovenere, Byron's Cave and Swimming Stops Along the Way

The final destination is Portovenere, where the Nimbus anchors in front of the Church of San Pietro, built in the 13th century and positioned dramatically at the tip of the medieval promontory above the small cove known as Byron's Cave. Throughout the 4 hours, multiple stops for swimming and snorkelling are scheduled in the most beautiful coves of the gulf — the Nimbus W9's manoeuvrability and modest draft allow it to reach sheltered anchorages that larger vessels cannot access.

Itineraries are subject to weather and sea conditions. The skipper may modify the route at any time to ensure the safety of all guests. Punctuality at boarding and disembarkation is required: delays will incur a charge of €120 per hour. In case of unjustified delay, the captain reserves the right to depart without the late guests.

The Gulf of Poets in Four Hours: Small Boat, Big Scenery

Not every day on the Ligurian coast needs to be a full-day commitment. Sometimes the best version of a boat trip is one that fits cleanly into a morning or an afternoon, leaves the rest of the day open, and still manages to cover the landscapes and villages that make this gulf one of the most celebrated on the Mediterranean. The half-day tour on the Nimbus Weekender W9 is designed around exactly this logic: four hours, six people maximum, and the full sweep of the Gulf of Poets from Lerici to Portovenere in a single, uninterrupted sequence.

The morning slot (10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) works well for guests who want the clearest light and the calmest sea conditions — the gulf in the morning hours has a particular stillness that tends to disappear by early afternoon. The afternoon slot (2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.) catches the warmer water and the better swimming conditions, and closes as the light begins to turn golden over the western shore — a natural bridge to an evening in Portovenere or Lerici, if guests choose to stay ashore after disembarkation.

Lerici, Fiascherino and Tellaro: The Eastern Shore Up Close

Departing from La Spezia, Lerici or Portovenere — the Nimbus W9 operates from all three ports, a flexibility that eliminates the need to travel to a single fixed marina — the boat moves along the eastern shore of the gulf towards Lerici. The Castle of San Giorgio defines the village from the water: a medieval fortress on a low promontory, its towers reflected in the harbour below, its walls the same warm stone as the houses clustered beneath it. Shelley lived here in the months before his death in 1822. The connection between this shore and the English Romantic poets is not metaphorical — it is biographical, architectural, and entirely visible from the deck of the boat.

Further south, the coast quietens. Fiascherino and Tellaro are the kinds of villages that reward visitors who arrive without expectations: small clusters of painted houses above tiny pebble inlets, a church on a cliff edge, a fishing boat or two still working the coves. Neither village is on the tourist circuit in any meaningful way, and both are best seen from exactly the angle the Nimbus provides — low on the water, close to the shore, slow enough to look properly.

The archipelago of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto follows — three UNESCO-protected islands whose undeveloped coastlines and clean, clear water make the swimming stops here among the most genuinely rewarding on the entire gulf itinerary. The Nimbus’s size and handling allow it to find the right cove, the sheltered bay just around the headland that the larger charter vessels miss, and to anchor there quietly while the six guests on board have the water essentially to themselves.

Portovenere is the endpoint: the Church of San Pietro above Byron’s Cave, the colourful medieval waterfront, the particular atmosphere of a village that has been considered beautiful for long enough that it wears the reputation without effort. Arriving by boat — from the sea, through the southern entrance of the gulf — is the arrival that makes sense here. The road, by comparison, arrives from entirely the wrong direction.

Four hours. Six guests. A 9.5-metre boat that goes where the larger vessels do not. The Gulf of Poets, covered properly, with time to spare.

Half Day Gulf of Poets Boat Tour — Nimbus W9: Frequently Asked Questions

Which time slot is better — morning or afternoon on the Nimbus W9?

The morning slot (10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) offers calmer seas and clearer light, ideal for photography and snorkelling. The afternoon slot (2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.) has warmer water and ends at golden hour — perfect if you plan to stay ashore in Portovenere or Lerici for dinner after the tour.

Can the half-day tour cover the same route as the full-day Gulf of Poets tour?

Yes — the itinerary covers Lerici, Fiascherino, Tellaro, the Palmaria archipelago and Portovenere in 4 hours. The pace is slightly brisker than the full-day version, with fewer extended stops, but all the key landmarks and swimming coves of the gulf are included in the route.

How many people can book the half-day tour on the Nimbus W9?

The Nimbus W9 accommodates a maximum of 6 guests on a fully private charter, with no shared departures. The small group size is a defining feature of the experience — the boat can anchor in coves and reach positions along the coast that are simply not accessible to larger vessels.
