Full Day Private Boat Tour of the Gulf of Poets on the Nimbus W9

Boarding at 10:00 a.m., return at 5:00 p.m. — a 7-hour private day on the water aboard the Nimbus Weekender W9, departing from La Spezia, Lerici or Portovenere with a maximum of 6 guests on an exclusive charter. This is the full Gulf of Poets itinerary on a 9.5-metre motor boat that combines genuine manoeuvrability with the intimacy of a very small group: the complete experience of the gulf, without the scale of a large charter vessel.

The tour opens on the eastern shore with Lerici, the medieval village watched over by the Castle of San Giorgio, before continuing south to the hidden coastal hamlets of Fiascherino and Tellaro — two of Liguria's least-visited and most atmospheric villages, accessible in any meaningful way only from the sea. The route then heads into the open waters of the southern gulf towards the UNESCO-listed archipelago of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, three spectacular islands entirely unspoiled by development.

Portovenere, Byron's Cave, Aperitif and Optional Lunch on Palmaria

The final destination is Portovenere, where the Nimbus anchors in front of the Church of San Pietro, built in the 13th century and framing the small cove known as Byron's Cave. Throughout the day, multiple stops for swimming and snorkelling are included in the most sheltered and beautiful coves of the gulf — the Nimbus W9's size and shallow draft give access to anchorages that larger boats cannot reach.

On board, a local products aperitif accompanied by a good glass of wine is included — a Ligurian welcome that sets the tone for a day defined by the flavours and landscapes of this coast. Guests also have the option to disembark on Palmaria Island for a typical local lunch (optional, not included) and/or land in Portovenere for a walk through the picturesque medieval alleys of the village.

Itineraries are subject to weather and sea conditions. The skipper may modify the route at any time to ensure the safety of all guests. Punctuality at boarding and disembarkation is required: delays will incur a charge of €120 per hour. In case of unjustified delay, the captain reserves the right to depart without the late guests.

The Gulf of Poets in a Day: Intimate, Unhurried and Entirely Yours

The Gulf of Poets is one of those places where the quality of the experience is almost entirely determined by how you move through it. Too fast and the villages blur into each other. Too crowded and the intimacy that defines the gulf — its human scale, its quiet coves, its sense of being genuinely apart from the main tourist circuit — is lost entirely. The full-day tour on the Nimbus W9 is calibrated for neither of these outcomes. Six guests, 9.5 metres of boat, seven hours, and a skipper who knows these waters well enough to find the right anchorage at the right time of day.

Departure is at 10:00 a.m. from one of three ports — La Spezia, Lerici or Portovenere — and the first hour moves along the eastern shore of the gulf in the clearest light of the morning. Lerici appears first, the Castle of San Giorgio high above the village, its medieval walls the colour of the surrounding rock, the harbour beneath it full of small boats that have been working these waters since before the castle was built. Shelley lived on this shore. The castle now houses a palaeontology museum. The combination is typically Ligurian: history and natural beauty occupying the same space without apparent effort.

Fiascherino, Tellaro and the Art of Going Slowly

South of Lerici the coast narrows and the villages become smaller and further apart. Fiascherino is a cluster of painted houses above a pebble beach — the kind of inlet that requires a shallow-draft boat and a skipper who knows it is there. Tellaro is perched on a headland above the sea, its church tower at the very edge of the cliff, the village so compact and so complete that it functions as a kind of argument for everything that mass tourism has failed to destroy on this coast. Both places are best experienced slowly, from the water, with no particular agenda beyond looking. The Nimbus is well suited to this.

The archipelago of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto follows, the three UNESCO-protected islands that mark the transition between the Gulf of Poets and the open Ligurian Sea. The swimming stops here are among the best of the day: the Marine Protected Area status has kept the water exceptionally clear and the seabed largely intact, and the Nimbus’s ability to tuck into small coves means the anchorages tend to be sheltered and quiet even on days when the wider gulf has some movement on it.

Somewhere in the middle of the day, the aperitif arrives. A glass of local wine, products from the Ligurian pantry — the kind of thing that tastes entirely different at anchor in a cove than it would at a restaurant table on shore, for reasons that have nothing to do with the food itself and everything to do with the context. For guests who want to extend the culinary dimension of the day, the option to go ashore on Palmaria Island for a traditional Ligurian lunch is one of the better decisions available — the restaurant on the island serves the kind of seafood that tastes better because of where you are eating it, and the view across the water to Portovenere from a table on Palmaria is not something that is easy to improve upon.

Portovenere closes the day. The Church of San Pietro above Byron’s Cave, the medieval waterfront in its deep, saturated colours, the narrow caruggi behind the harbour for those who go ashore — and then the return across the gulf to the port of departure, arriving at 5:00 p.m. with seven hours of the Gulf of Poets behind you and the evening still entirely open.

What is the difference between the full-day and half-day Nimbus W9 Gulf tour?

The full-day tour (7 hours, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) covers the complete itinerary with extended swimming stops, the on-board aperitif with local wine, and the option to go ashore on Palmaria Island for lunch. The half-day tour (4 hours) covers the same route at a brisker pace, without the lunch option or the extended stops.

Is the local aperitif and wine included in the full-day tour price?

Yes — the full-day Nimbus W9 Gulf tour includes an aperitif based on local Ligurian products accompanied by wine, served on board during the day. This is included in the base price. Lunch on Palmaria Island is optional and not included — it can be arranged directly on the island.

Can we choose to depart from Lerici or Portovenere instead of La Spezia?

Yes. The Nimbus W9 operates from La Spezia, Lerici and Portovenere — guests can choose the most convenient departure port based on where they are staying. This flexibility is unique to the Nimbus fleet and is not available on the larger charter vessels on the same route.

If poor marine weather conditions prevent rhe regular running of the tours, it can be scheduled at a later date, alternatively the full amount paid will be refund
For cancellation by the customer
For cancellations up to 60 days before departure, no cancellation fee is required
