Goletta Kimera: 26-Metre Mahogany Schooner on the Gulf of Poets

The Goletta Kimera is the most characterful vessel in the Viaggi di Mare fleet — a 26-metre traditional schooner built entirely in mahogany, launched in 1981 and refitted in 2019, that brings a different quality of experience to a day on the Ligurian coast. Where the motor yachts in the fleet offer speed and open deck space, the Goletta offers something harder to manufacture: the particular atmosphere of a classic wooden sailing boat, its hull moving through the water with a presence that modern fibreglass vessels simply do not have.

On Board: Mahogany, Space and a Living Room on the Sea

The interior is as considered as the exterior. Mahogany throughout, the saloon is built around a large comfortable sofa, a generous dining table with a surrounding bench, and full entertainment facilities including flat-screen TV with satellite and Sky HD channels, stereo and Dolby Surround system. The galley is equipped with induction hob, oven, fridge and freezer — everything needed for a day that includes a proper meal on board. With 3 cabins, 3 toilets and capacity for up to 23 guests on deck, the Goletta is the right choice for larger groups who want the atmosphere of a classic vessel without sacrificing comfort or space.

The Cinque Terre Authorisation: A Significant Advantage

The Goletta Kimera holds the official Park Authority authorisation to enter the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area — one of a small number of vessels on this coast that can legally sail inshore under the cliffs and moor at the designated buoys inside the park. This means that on the Cinque Terre tour, guests can disembark in Vernazza via the authorised taxi boat for approximately one hour ashore in the village — an access that boats without the authorisation cannot offer. It is one of the most sought-after features on this stretch of coast, and it is built into the Goletta’s itinerary as standard.

Three Tours, Departing from Le Grazie di Portovenere

All Goletta tours depart from Le Grazie di Portovenere, a small village on the inner shore of the Gulf of Poets — already inside the gulf, already close to the destinations, already part of the landscape the tour explores. Three itineraries are available:

  • Sunset Aperitif on Goletta (3 hours, up to 23 guests) — an evening cruise across the Gulf of Poets to Portovenere and the Palmaria archipelago, with a swimming stop and a rich aperitif served on board at golden hour. Byron’s Grotto, the villages of Le Grazie, Fezzano and Cadimare on the return.
  • Gulf of Poets on Goletta (7 hours, up to 23 guests) — the full eastern arc of the gulf: Lerici with the Castle of San Giorgio, Fiascherino, Tellaro, the UNESCO islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, and Portovenere with the 13th-century Church of San Pietro and Byron’s Cave. Multiple swimming stops and optional shore landings.
  • Cinque Terre on Goletta (7 hours, up to 23 guests) — the Gulf of Poets route extended to the five UNESCO fishing villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, with authorised inshore sailing and the option to land in Vernazza via the authorised taxi boat.

Goletta Kimera: Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Goletta have authorisation to enter the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area?

Yes — the Goletta Kimera holds the official Cinque Terre Park Authority authorisation, allowing it to sail inshore under the cliffs and moor at the designated buoys inside the Marine Protected Area. On the Cinque Terre tour, guests can disembark in Vernazza via the authorised taxi boat for approximately one hour ashore.

Where does the Goletta depart from?

All Goletta tours depart from Le Grazie di Portovenere, a village on the inner western shore of the Gulf of Poets. The location is ideal — the boat is already inside the gulf at departure, close to the main destinations of Portovenere, Palmaria Island and the Cinque Terre coast.

How many guests can board the Goletta Kimera?

The Goletta accommodates up to 23 guests on deck on a fully private charter, making it the largest-capacity vessel in the Viaggi di Mare fleet.
